Software Engineer

We are looking for a software engineer to help support software efforts on Adaptive Optics systems, hardware communications, image processing, and graphic user interfaces (GUI). As a Software Engineer, you will participate in the full development cycle of innovative programs creating advanced optical systems, starting from concept and requirements definition through commissioning operational products at the customer site and support/upgrade of systems in the field.

Essential Job Functions

  • Engage with customers to define top-level system requirements
  • Collaborate with internal, multi-disciplinary team to flow down requirements to the contributing functional areas
  • Contribute to maturation of existing products and manufacturing processes through collaborative development of documentation, procedure, and support infrastructure
  • Write and contribute to reports, including: design documentation, operational specifications, project briefings for internal and customer consumption
  • Assist with selecting and preparing new proposals
  • Deal directly with customers including briefings, presentations, meetings and conferences

Required Skills/Background

  • 5-10 years of experience
  • Proficiency in C/C++
  • Strong debugging skills
  • Experience with using Git for version control
  • Strong knowledge of Linux and CLI
  • Low level hardware communication (cameras, sensors, linear stages)
  • Knowledge of FPGA and GPU (CUDA)
  • Ability to travel in support of system deployment or customer engagement- <10% time
  • U.S. citizen
  • Ability to obtain security clearance

  • Strong math skills
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Julia
  • Knowledge of high-speed control systems
  • Computer vision, image processing, DSP
  • Passion for astronomy and laser communications
